I notice at this time of year, many people stop working completely; others work half-time, and a few dedicated souls feel frustrated about taking just one day off. Whichever category you fall into, the truth is that much of the world is "out of office" for the next few weeks. I have always found this time of year a good time to catch up on tasks that I never seem to get to.
One thing I've noticed that most women fall behind on is keeping their contact list up-to-date. This is one of those organizational tasks that should just take an hour or two if you keep up with it regularly. What's hiding in your list right now? Clients? Media Features? Awards? Speaking Engagements? Collaborative Partnerships? Career Opportunities? It's worth keeping organized!
Regardless of whether you own your own business or want to be in charge of your career, a quality contact list is a worthwhile investment. This is something that you earn and own because of your strong work ethic and reputation.
You may be at a level of success where organizing your list is all you need to do. If so, that can be done in less than a day. Compile a list of all professional contacts. If you have an email list, begin there. Don't forget your actual email address book, the contacts in your phone, and those on social media. Download all of these contacts to one place. Sort them alphabetically and go over the list. Then, get these names organized. Who needs to be:
on a follow-up list
added to your email list
connected with on social media sites
sent a thank you note or gift
invited to an event
recommended for a promotion or award
invited to serve on a board
have their contact information updated
deleted altogether
If you're not where you want to be in your business, this is an ideal time to get yourself organized to GROW YOUR CONTACT LIST with intention early in the new year.
Anytime I am working with a client who wants to change directions, get a promotion, or get new clients, we always begin with their contact list. Is yours sufficient?
If you know it's time to GROW, please enjoy this masterclass workshop called List Building Essentials. Inside I share my best strategies to grow your contact list effectively, efficiently, and with integrity.
TIP: You do not need to implement every strategy I teach in this class. Choose two to begin with. Stay focused, stay intentional and let me know how these tips work for you.
If you enjoy this kind of workshop, and if you enjoy being in a room with other success-minded women, I encourage you to attend my January workshop happening on Saturday, January 6th in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Out-of-town guests are WELCOME. I would love to kick off 2024 with you. Get all the details and register here:
